This is a blog about my memories of the Atari ST, the 16-bit computer that formed an important part of my childhood. I’ll be writing about the games I remember, some of the demos that amazed me with their technical excellence, perhaps a few of the more serious applications I used, and even my largely failed attempts at making something decent with STOS. In short, this is my tribute to the Atari ST, a machine I owned in several different forms throughout the late 80s and the 90s.

Other Projects by the Same Author

This Atari ST blog is one of several small retro-computing, game-development and browser-based projects I maintain. The links below are included for readers who may be interested in related work, from adventure game development through to classic computer emulation and early AI history.

Captain Disaster Dev Blog

Captain Disaster Dev Blog is my long-running development blog for the Captain Disaster point-and-click adventure games. It covers development notes, design decisions, release updates and occasional reflections on indie adventure game development.

ELIZA Emulator

ELIZA Emulator is an interactive browser-based recreation and history site focused on Joseph Weizenbaum’s ELIZA, one of the earliest and most influential chatbot programs. The site includes a playable ELIZA-style console, background on the original program, and articles exploring its influence on later AI and chatbot culture.

Jupiter Ace Emulator

Jupiter Ace Emulator is a developing site dedicated to the Jupiter Ace, the unusual 1980s home computer built around FORTH rather than BASIC. The site covers the machine’s history, architecture, software, games and the ongoing process of building a browser-based emulator.

Think of an Animal

Think of an Animal is a small browser-based recreation of the classic “think of an animal” guessing-game concept. It sits somewhere between retro computing, early educational software and simple interactive web experiments.

These projects are maintained independently, but they share a common interest in older software, accessible browser-based experiments, and the history of computing.
